Vinous Neal Martin - 01 Sep 18
The 1992 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is a vintage that for some reason has cropped up a couple of times recently, having first encountered the wine in 2007. It has been consistent from bottle to bottle. Leafy and autumnal on the nose, it is well defined if just lacking the fruit of other vintages, but there is some lovely red fruit mixed with black tea here. The palate is better with more body than you would expect, although its still lags behind the 1993, touches of Earl Grey towards the lean, rather stalky finish. It is not going to fall apart rapidly however, there is little point in storing bottles long-term. Tasted at the Roumier vertical in Hong Kong.
